After finally waking up from an alcohol induced coma, Isles GM Franz had a few words to share about his team, their performance and the direction of the team.
Q: Which player or players have been standouts in the first two weeks of the league?
So far the most surprising have been Frat boy Sillinger, Flatley and Kasper the friendly ghost. Silly Salmon has been thriving both on the ice and with the beers on ice. Shows up to practice cooler in hand tall boys on ice and works hard. Slapped the trainer when he got water instead of his beer but we are working with the staff to make sure they understand the needs of star players.
Flatley has been great, even though his is a bit of a buzz kill. If he wasn’t such a useful tool to the team he would be just a tool. Guy seems to have a vision with the puck and can always seem to find the open man. Think it’s because he can actually see straight cause the guy doesn’t drink during the game but hey at least he is an asset.
Kasper has been an animal! Guy has been crushing kegs and players. Leading the team in PIMS hasn’t stopped this guy from putting up 5 assists in 12 games. Watching him play is like watching a drunk wrecking ball on skates it beautiful.
Q: Which players are you expecting more from?
Lafontaine and Ferrero
Our top two centres have been working their asses off in the Offensive zone, and their points show it. What we are looking for is more defence. At -7 each after 12 games it is clear to see they don’t play defence. This was especially clear when those two were playing beer pong against Kasper and Silly and they bounced one in on them. Everyone knows that weak ass defence won’t win you shit. Time for those two to smarten up. They been placed on a strict beer pong training camp to teach them the importance of defence.
Q: Looking at the goaltending situation, your team is 4-8-0, what is the keys moving forward?
As I said the team needs to tighten up around the goalies and help out on the back end. We’ve given good teams runs but seem to lack the ability to be consistent. Right now I have no issues with the goalies but time will tell.
Q: What is the direction this team is going?
I feel this team has a lot of upside, made some depth moves to get some pieces that fit the team and gotta keep eyes out for good players that come up. We got lots of picks in upcoming drafts so it may be time to look at moving some of those for players who can make an impact on this team currently.
Q: Playoffs, do you think you will make it?
Still too early to tell. For know the boys need to focus on the little things, work on getting the puck out of their zone and crushing beers like champions, then we will worry about playoffs.
Q: The last time we spoke you said Malahkov and your wife were becoming friends. How is that going?
Fantastic, my wife has really taken a shine to him. Takes him out for dinners and to places around the city, really making him feel at home within the city. She keeps him busy and he seems happy still come around often. Usually catch him leaving after I get home from the bars but he and the wife always say they had a great time.
Seems as though the team is progressing well in the GM’s eyes and overall everything seems good, but time shall tell.
