The Blues are ready to make bit of a rebound this season. While the multiple 1sts and 2nds will help in the long run, there is no time like the present. After camps we are getting really excited to see how the youth on my team can perform. Here are my projected lines along with current (pre camp) OVs and ages.
Shanahan 82, 22 - Oates 84, 29 - Nolan 82, 19 Holik 77, 20 - Perreault 80, 21 - Nedved 80, 20 Sutter 74, 28 - Emerson 76, 24 - Green 76, 21 Kimble 68, 23 - Bassen 72, 26 - Chase 64, 24
Brown 80, 25 - Cavallini 80, 26 Featherston 78, 23 - Cullimore 74, 20 McBean 75, 22 - Kruppke 65, 22
Malarchuk 83, 30 Rienddeau 78, 25 Khabibulin 76, 19
Just looking at the youth on this roster is staggering - not one skater 30 or above. Malarchuk will fulfill his role as starter, receiving around 50-60 starts with Riendeau and Khabibulin likely splitting the remainder in a 60-40 split. What is also exciting is the size of these young players and the physicality. Add in the two 1st round picks and one or two 2nd round picks in the '93 draft and this team might suddenly be a surprising contender. For now, fans can simply be happy with a chance at making the playoffs this season. Compared to last season, that is practically winning the Cup.
One thing that will soon be known about this new GM is, he doesn't stand for softness. There will always be a significant focus on player toughness and defending teammates - intensity and strength will be a high focus and there will always be an enforcer, or two, or three ready to be the hammer, not the nail.
