When Reggie Baldwin was named the new GM of the Philadelphia Flyers, the first thing he did was look over his roster/prospects and decide which direction his team would go. He had some good pieces in Ron Hextall and Rick Tocchet but that was it, to contend in this league u would need to have a couple of superstars and tons of depth which Flyers never had so this was an easy decision. When Reg revealed he was going into a full tear down fans weren't happy but they understood the process. Teams started calling and after back and forth conversations with EdmGM they finally came to an agreement.
To Edmonton Ron Hextall 26/81
To Philadelphia Martin Gelinas 20/72 Peter Ing 21/68 Edm 1st 1991 (9th overall)
Acquiring the 9th overall was a very big deal for the Flyers, they now have the 2 picks (9ths and 18th overall) in the 91 draft which many experts predict a deep draft.
With a weak forward group the flyers will probably use the 9th to draft an up and coming forward and use the 18th for a dman.
Reggie Baldwin had some words for the fans of Philadelphia " There will be some tough times ahead, please bare with us. We want to have a team that can contend for the cup every year not just fight to get in as the 8th seed and lose in the first round. We need to do it like this for the best of the franchise going forward, the team you saw last year will not be the same this year."
Stay tuned fans this means more trades coming.
